The Legend of Cross Stitch

The Mario cross-stitch worked out fairly well, so when I went looking for an idea for the pattern for my next project, I didn't stray too far from that concept. I didn't want to just move on to the next Mario game (Mario 2 is the black sheep of the family, after all), so I went to the other major Nintendo classic that was born in that era. I think it turned out quite well:

So much blue...

The pattern was made the same way as with the Mario project, with an emulator and a specific cross-stitch pattern program.  I moved around a couple of elements (put the rupee on the other side of the river, moved the Zola attack to an otherwise-clear area, that sort of thing). It is a little busier than the Mario screenshot, and was therefore a little more interesting to work on.

The fabric that I used for this was very soft, not the usual stiff Aida that I had used for my previous projects. I liked the feel and look of it, though (it matched well with the actual video game background), plus we had it on hand. The other oddity of the fabric is that it isn't quite square, so the end result is a little more stretched than the original was. It looks fine on it's own, but when you compare it with the source image, it is quite clear that something is amiss. Link is a little fatter than usual, for instance.

So, here are some highlights, and here is the full gallery if you don't get the gist from this sample:
